Mind Maps of Consciousness


The two mind maps show the impact of both consciousnesses on our self, environment, relationships, and businesses.

These two mind maps demonstrate the result of two kinds of consciousness:


"Inner Consciousness"

Where our sense of who we are, is based on our inner values, inner virtues and strengths which are controllable.

"Outer Consciousness"

Our sense of who we are, is based on things such as our possessions, our position, our appearance and money which are all non permanent, every changing and not totally within our control.

The two mind maps show the impact of both consciousnesses on our self, environment, relationships, and businesses.


The contrast between the maps is very great: we can see that long term individual and group happiness, and respectful relationships with ourselves, others and our environment, comes from being stable in an inner consciousness, while fear, stress and unhappiness result from being in an outer consciousness.


If we look at the outer most layers of the mind maps we see the result or ‘fruit’ of either having a “seed” of inner consciousness or outer consciousness.

The mind map on outer consciousness shows that all the problems within individuals, relationships, business, and the environment can be traced back to the seed of outer consciousness. Yet often instead of going back to the seed of the problem or the seed of the solution we try to ‘cut off the branches’.


Now is the time to explore planting “seeds” of inner consciousness so that these can grow into positive fruit for the self, relationships, businesses and our World.


How to use the maps:

  • Look at the maps and check where are you most of the time?

  • Are you happy where you are? If yes, great stay there! If not, then you may like to practice the following:

We can strengthen inner consciousness by spending time to think, contemplate and practice using values and virtues in our daily life; by playing our roles the best we can while also keeping in mind that, they are roles and will change at some point of time, and that we exist beyond the role; enjoying our possessions, while being aware, that everything in life comes and goes, so not being attached to them.
